The new fire station is a net zero facility measuring approximately 10,000 sq ft. Heating is supplied by a geothermal system and hydro is provided by solar panels that are installed on carport structures in the parking lot. This is the first fire station in Canada that is completely identified as “net zero energy”.
The new stations is equipped with 3 double drive through apparatus bays. The building is designed to post-disaster standards.
Structurally, the building is designed as a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glulam framed structure. The CLT panel assembly will provide the shear wall and roof decking assembly while the Glulam beams and columns will provide the clear spanning space within the Truck Apparatus Bay and the Front End Feature Window.
