Mississauga Fire Station 119 – LEED Services

Location: Mississauga, Ontario

The new Fire Station 119 is located at 6375 Airport Road, Mississauga, Ontario. The gross floor area of the fire station is about 8073 square feet (750 m2). The Peel Region Paramedic Satellite (PRPS) Station gross floor area is about 2,800 square feet (260 m2). The new Fire Station 119 and the PRPS Station are anticipated to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification for New Construction (NC) 2009.

Unique aspects of the project include:

  • First LEED Gold project that will be achieved under the management of City of Mississauga.
  • Open grid pavement system on site significantly reduced the amount of Stormwater runoff from the project site.
  • White reflective roofing system reduces the head-island effect on site.
  • The building is situated on a pre-contaminated site, the owner completed remediated the contamination prior to the construction of the building.

Stephenson Engineering provided services with respect to the LEED certification from schematic design to completion of commissioning. Services included LEED specification and energy modeling services; Facilitated cost-benefit analysis of potential energy conservation recommendations; Drafted sustainable plans and policies for the building’s operation manager to ensure sustainable operation of the building; and acted as LEED project manager on behalf of the Contractor to host LEED education workshops, approved shop drawings and complied LEED product data.
